Acer Laptop Warranty and International Travelers Warranty Explained

Quick answer: In the US, Acer’s consumer laptops, including current Predator and Nitro models, carry a one-year limited warranty on parts and labour, with mail-in or carry-in service. You pay to ship the laptop to Acer and carry the risk of damage in transit. Eligible laptops also get a one-year International Travelers Warranty, which lets you use carry-in service centres in other countries. Keep your original invoice: you need it for both.

Terms checked against Acer’s US warranty page, its US and Canada notebook warranty document, Acer’s International Travelers Warranty articles and the Acer UK store, November 2026.

How long is the Acer laptop warranty?

Acer’s US warranty page lists one year for consumer Aspire, Swift, Switch and Spin laptops, and one year for Predator laptops made in 2019 or later. Predator models made before 2019 had two years. Acer says to check the warranty card that came with your unit, since that is the definitive term for your laptop.

What does Acer’s warranty not cover?

Acer’s US and Canada notebook warranty document excludes:

  • Misuse, accidents, fire, theft and normal wear and tear
  • Cosmetic damage that does not affect function
  • Software, including the operating system, and loss of data
  • External keyboards, mice and speakers
  • Servicing not authorised by Acer

Does upgrading RAM or the SSD affect the Acer warranty?

Acer’s wording is stricter than some rivals. Its warranty excludes damage caused by parts modified to change functionality, damage from combining Acer products with non-Acer components, and any components that were not included when you bought the laptop. In practice, a part you added is not covered, and damage it causes may not be either. Keep the original parts and refit them before sending the laptop in. By contrast, MSI explicitly allows memory and storage upgrades, as our MSI laptop warranty guide explains.

How does the International Travelers Warranty work?

Acer’s International Travelers Warranty terms cover eligible Acer laptops for one year from purchase, at Acer’s ITW service centres outside the country where you bought it. The key conditions:

  • You must be a genuine traveller with a copy of the original sales invoice. Some countries ask for proof of residency or proper importation.
  • Service is carry-in only, and you pay any transport to the service centre.
  • Regional parts are swapped for local ones. Acer’s own example is a US keyboard replaced with a local keyboard in China.
  • If no comparable part exists locally, the laptop must go back to the country of purchase.
  • Replacing the whole laptop or its AC adapter is not covered under ITW.

When you request service, have your serial number, model, proof of purchase, a description of the fault and any password ready, and declare any upgrades you have made.

How do you claim warranty service from Acer?

  1. Try the retailer first if you are still inside its return window.
  2. Register the laptop. Acer encourages registration within 30 days, though its warranty document calls it optional.
  3. Contact Acer support through acersupport.com, which the warranty document lists alongside phone support, and work through its diagnosis steps.
  4. Back up and ship. Copy your data, pack the laptop in its original box or equivalent protection, and insure the shipment, since transit damage is your risk.
  5. If Acer sends a replacement first, it may ask for a credit card authorisation, and you must return the faulty unit within 15 days.

Can you extend it?

In the UK, Acer sells Acer Care Plus cover for Predator, Nitro and Aspire 7 laptops: three years of carry-in repair including the first year of the International Travelers Warranty, with free shipping to and from your home. It must be activated within 365 days of purchase. In the US, Acer says extended service plans are available to buy online. Neither listing states that accidental damage is included, so check the plan’s terms before paying.

How good is Acer’s support?

Acer scored 80 out of 100 in Laptop Mag’s 2023 tech support showdown, tied with Dell and ASUS and well ahead of MSI and HP in that year’s test. That makes the warranty’s weak points the policy details, such as shipping costs and the upgrade wording, rather than reaching a helpful agent.
